How Ownwell Resolves Common Data Integrity Issues

One of the benefits of Ownwell is that most common data integrity issues are handled automatically. This means you don’t have to spend time reviewing the data and your clients still get engaging, reliable insights.

How it works

Silent fixes

Ownwell automatically cleans up issues in the background. For example:

  • Duplicate or outdated mortgages are suppressed, so only the latest and most relevant records are imported.

Smart defaults

Ownwell applies sensible defaults to keep insights relevant. For example:

  • Recently closed mortgages: switch/refinance and purchasing power insights are turned off for the first six months after closing, when they’re not helpful. They automatically turn on when six months have elapsed.

  • Matured mortgages: insights that rely on term to maturity are turned off (refinance and switch) until updated term details are added.

  • Clients who own multiple properties: since there can only be one property per report, we don’t have a complete view of the client's total equity, so the purchasing power insight is turned off.

When Ownwell needs your input

In some cases, Ownwell can’t resolve everything automatically and will flag an issue for you to review.

Issues are not errors - they’re simply indicators that something in the data may need attention. By surfacing them clearly, Ownwell helps you:

  • Avoid confusing or inaccurate reports being sent to clients

  • Save time cleaning up data after the fact

  • Build trust with clients by keeping their insights reliable

Two categories of issues

  1. Enrollment issues

    • Appear when you first add or import clients

    • Highlight missing or inconsistent information that should be fixed before sending reports

    • Example: a lender name isn’t recognized

  2. Ongoing issues

    • Show up later when client data changes in a way that affects insights

    • Example: a mortgage matures and term details need updating

How Ownwell handles issues

  • Some issues are resolved automatically in the background.

  • Others temporarily turn off specific insights until data is available.

  • A small number require input from you (or your client), and Ownwell provides clear guidance on what to do. Issues can be dismissed if they're not relevant.

Types of issues

Here are the issues you may encounter:

  • Multiple Mortgages Detected - when Ownwell can't determine if a property has multiple mortgages or if some of them have since been paid out. At present, an Ownwell report can only have one mortgage associated with it.

  • Lender Name Not Recognized - update the lender from a dropdown to enable accurate calculations.

  • Home Price Estimate Unavailable - property details may be missing; an estimate will appear once coverage expands.

  • Mortgage Appears Underwater - flagged when the balance exceeds the estimated home value; review details or update the estimate.

  • Mortgage Has Matured - certain insights are hidden until new term details are updated.

  • Invalid Email / Unsubscribed - clients cannot receive reports until the email is corrected or they re-subscribe.

Where to find and resolve issues

You can view issues in two places:

  • Global Issues tab (Dashboard): shows all issues across your client base in one place.

  • Client-specific Issues tab: shows only the issues related to a single client, directly within their profile.
